Quick answer

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has no single fax number. Documents usually go to a tax centre – Sudbury, Winnipeg or Jonquière – depending on your province and situation, and non-resident accounts have their own units. Use the number on your CRA letter or in the SendFaxFast CRA fax directory, then fax your PDF online at sendfaxfast.com from US$2.49, without a fax machine.

First: does the CRA want a fax?

The CRA strongly encourages online submission. If you're registered for My Account (individuals), My Business Account or Represent a Client, the "Submit documents" feature is often the fastest route. Fax is useful when:

  • your CRA letter gives you a fax number,
  • you can't access the online accounts (common for non-residents or newly appointed representatives),
  • a form or CRA page names fax as an accepted channel.
If your letter names a specific fax number, always use that one.

The three tax centres

The most-used CRA fax numbers belong to the tax centres:

Tax centreTypically handlesLocal time zone
Sudbury (Ontario)General correspondence and documents; temporarily non-resident T1 returns from most countriesEastern
Winnipeg (Manitoba)General correspondence and documents; temporarily non-resident T1 returns from residents of the USA, UK, France, the Netherlands and DenmarkCentral
Jonquière (Québec)General correspondence, mainly Québec / French-language filesEastern

Which centre applies depends on your province of residence and your situation. The CRA's "where to send" pages and your letter tell you which one is yours. Exact numbers with official canada.ca links are in our CRA directory.

Non-residents and international accounts

If you live outside Canada, the CRA uses separate fax numbers for:

  • International tax and non-resident enquiries for individuals and non-resident trusts.
  • Non-resident corporations and business accounts (corporations, sole proprietors, partnerships, payroll, GST/HST).
  • Part XIII tax and NR4 non-resident withholding accounts.
  • Representative authorization for non-resident accounts (Form AUT-01 for NR4/Part XIII accounts).

The CRA has also been temporarily accepting non-resident T1 income tax returns by fax – residents of the USA, UK, France, the Netherlands and Denmark send to Winnipeg, all others to Sudbury. Because this is a temporary measure, check the official CRA page linked in our directory before relying on it.

Faxing from outside Canada? Enter the number as +1 plus the 10-digit number. SendFaxFast charges the same price wherever you send from.

How to prepare a CRA fax

  1. Put the CRA letter or form on top, or a cover sheet that names the program (for example "Individual tax – correspondence").
  2. Add your identifier to every page: Social Insurance Number, Business Number or non-resident account number, as the CRA requests. Also add your name and the tax year.
  3. Sign where required. Unsigned forms are a common reason for delays.
  4. Make one PDF in the right order. A clear phone photo (JPG/PNG) also works.
  5. Use the free cover sheet generator if you don't have a CRA letter to put on top.

Fax the CRA step by step

  1. Get the number from your letter or the CRA directory.
  2. Open sendfaxfast.com and upload your document.
  3. Choose +1 (Canada) and enter the area code and number.
  4. Optional: schedule it for business hours in the tax centre's time zone (Sudbury and Jonquière: Eastern; Winnipeg: Central).
  5. Pay once by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal – no account, no subscription.
  6. Keep the delivery report from your email with a copy of what you sent.

If the line is busy, SendFaxFast retries automatically. If the fax can't be delivered, you get a full refund.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CRA fax number?

There isn't just one. The tax centres in Sudbury, Winnipeg and Jonquière each have a fax number, and non-resident units have their own. Use the number on your CRA letter or look it up in our CRA directory at sendfaxfast.com/fax-number/.

Can I fax my tax return to the CRA?

Generally, individual residents file online or by mail. For non-resident T1 returns the CRA has been temporarily accepting fax. Check the current CRA page before you send.

Is "Submit documents" better than fax?

If you have access to My Account or My Business Account, the CRA prefers it. Fax is a good option when you can't use the online accounts or your letter asks for fax.

Can I fax the CRA from the US or abroad?

Yes. Enter the number with +1. SendFaxFast charges the same price from any country.

How do I prove I faxed the CRA?

Keep the delivery report SendFaxFast sends by email, together with the pages you sent.
