Among Canada's big federal offices, the CRA accepts documents by fax at its tax centres and non-resident units. Service Canada lists fax only for specific requests, such as copies of already-issued paper Records of Employment; EI, CPP and OAS list no fax number. IRCC accepts fax only if your letter gives a number. Check the SendFaxFast fax directory and fax online from US$2.49.

Why it's confusing
The Government of Canada has moved most services online. Fax numbers still exist, but often only for one process, one unit, or one type of client. Old numbers keep circulating on forums and third-party sites. That's why our directory only lists numbers that appear on the official canada.ca pages, each with its purpose and the date we checked it.
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
The CRA is the federal office you're most likely to fax. Its three tax centres – Sudbury, Winnipeg and Jonquière – accept correspondence and documents by fax. Separate fax numbers exist for international and non-resident enquiries, non-resident business accounts, Part XIII/NR4 accounts, and representative authorizations for non-resident accounts.
The CRA still prefers "Submit documents" in My Account or My Business Account. Fax is the practical route when you can't use those accounts or when your letter asks for fax.

Service Canada
Service Canada handles Employment Insurance (EI), the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS) and Records of Employment (ROE).
- Records of Employment: employers can request copies of already-issued paper ROEs by fax. Include your business name, payroll account number, employee names and SINs, years, reason and signature. Ordering new paper ROE forms by fax is no longer possible.
- EI, CPP and OAS: the official contact pages list online, phone, mail and in-person options – no fax number. Don't use fax numbers from unofficial lists.
IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada)
IRCC has no general fax number. Applications and new documents go through your online account or the IRCC web form. Only fax if an IRCC letter explicitly gives you a fax number – then use exactly that number.
Provincial and municipal offices
Provinces, territories and municipalities run their own services (health cards, vital statistics, workers' compensation and more), each with its own contact rules. Our directory currently covers federal agencies. For provincial or municipal offices, use the fax number on your letter, the form, or the office's official website.
How to fax a Canadian government office online
- Confirm fax is accepted for your document (letter, form or official page).
- Get the exact number from your letter or the directory.
- Prepare one PDF: letter or cover sheet first, identifier (SIN, BN, file or client number) on every page, signatures in place. A free cover sheet helps.
- Send at sendfaxfast.com: upload, choose +1 (Canada), enter the number, pay once.
- Mind the time zone. Canada has six, from Newfoundland to Pacific. Fax during the office's local business hours, or use the scheduler.
- Keep the delivery report from your email.
