Who still uses fax in the UK?
Fax is far less common in the UK than it used to be, but it has not disappeared. You may still be asked to fax a document to:
- some GP surgeries, pharmacies and clinics, for example for forms or referrals
- solicitors and conveyancers who list a fax number on their letterhead
- some insurers, letting agents and banks for signed forms
- businesses abroad that ask for a signed copy by fax

How to write a UK fax number correctly
UK numbers start with a 0 when dialled inside the UK. For an online fax you use the international format instead:
- Start with +44.
- Remove the leading 0 of the number.
- Type the rest without spaces or brackets.

Numbers starting with 07 are mobile numbers in the UK. A mobile phone cannot receive a fax, so double-check if you see one.
