Quick answer

ChromeOS has no fax feature and Chromebooks have no fax modem, so use an online fax service in Chrome. Save your document as a PDF, open sendfaxfast.com, upload it, enter the fax number and pay for that one fax. No software installation or account is needed.

Chromebooks are common in schools, libraries and many homes. They are great for documents in the browser, and that is exactly what an online fax needs.

Step 1: Get a PDF

  • Google Docs, Sheets, Slides: File > Download > PDF. See faxing from Google Docs and Drive.
  • A web page or any printable file: press Ctrl + P and choose Save as PDF as the destination.
  • A paper document: the ChromeOS Camera app has a document scan mode on many Chromebooks. Alternatively scan it with your phone and send it from there.

Step 2: Send it in Chrome

  1. Open sendfaxfast.com in Chrome.
  2. Upload the PDF from the Files app (Downloads folder). Several files are combined into one fax.
  3. Enter the fax number with the country code: +1 for the US and Canada, +61 for Australia, +64 for New Zealand.
  4. Pay with card, Google Pay or PayPal. You get a send report by email with an image of the first page.

Free Chrome extension

If you fax from Chrome now and then, the free SendFaxFast extension opens the fax form with one click. The extension itself costs nothing; you only pay for the faxes you send. School or work Chromebooks may block extensions; in that case use the website.
