Google Docs and Google Drive have no fax button. Download the file as a PDF (in Docs: File > Download > PDF Document), then upload it to an online fax service like sendfaxfast.com, enter the fax number and pay for that one fax. It works on a computer and on your phone.
Your letter is written in Google Docs, or the signed form sits in your Drive. Now someone wants it by fax. Google doesn't offer faxing, and add-ons usually need an account with a fax provider. The quickest way is to download a PDF and send it online.
Fax a Google Doc from a computer
- Open the document in Google Docs.
- Click File > Download > PDF Document (.pdf). The PDF lands in your Downloads folder.
- Open sendfaxfast.com, upload the PDF and enter the fax number.
- Pay for that one fax. You get a send report by email.
The same works for Google Sheets and Google Slides: File > Download > PDF.
Fax a file that is stored in Google Drive
For a PDF or image that is already in Drive: right-click the file and choose Download, then upload it on sendfaxfast.com. Word files in Drive can be opened in Google Docs and downloaded as PDF, or saved as PDF in Word (see how to fax a Word document).
On your phone (Android or iPhone)
- In the Google Docs app, open the document, tap the three dots and use Share & export to save or send a copy as PDF. In the Drive app, tap the three dots next to a file and choose Download (Android) or Open in / Send a copy to save it to Files (iPhone).
- Open sendfaxfast.com in your browser and upload the PDF from your downloads or the Files app.
Menu names in the Google apps change from time to time. If you can't find an option, look for "Download", "Export" or "Send a copy".
Check the PDF before you fax
- Fax is black and white. Colored backgrounds or light gray text can become hard to read.
- Check the page count: every PDF page becomes one fax page.
- If a signature is missing, sign on screen after uploading on sendfaxfast.com.
